Build America Bonds Considered for Transportation

National Journal reports that Oregon Senator Ron Wyden is seeking to revive the Obama administration’s popular Build America Bonds program. The senator has proposed limiting the bonds to transportation investments. The bonds, according to the article, could help offset the challenge of paying for a six-year transportation bill.

Funding for Iowa’s Railways

On Friday, U.S. Senator Tom Harkin and the U.S. Department of Transportation announced that Iowa’s railways will receive $500,000 from the federal government. The funds, from the Federal Railroad Administration’s Railroad Safety Technology Program, will be utilized to improve technology and safety on railways throughout the state. The money also will help Iowa’s railways comply with the 2008 Rail Safety Improvement Act.
